During the summer of 1979, a group of friends filming a movie witness a train crash and investigate subsequent unexplained events in their small town.

When I first saw the preview for Super 8, it was mysterious; all they showed was the train crash and something smashing its way out of the train. J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg never disappoint so naturally I was excited. When I  went to the theater to watch it, I was shocked to find out the protagonists in the movie were all children, but I was impressed by there performances. Normally when people think of children as protagonists in a sci-fi movie they immediately think cheesy, even I am sometimes am guilty of that, but these young actors/actresses did a phenomenal job.

The era is presented meticulously, clothing, cars, electronics, exc.  This movie was filled with plenty of heart, a lot of film makers use action sequences to entertain but then the audience often forgets about those involved in the sequences, there is a enough character development in the movie for you to actually care about what happens to the characters.  Much richer, much deeper and more moving than its alien movie premise might suggest.

It is definitely a film I recommend watching.

Cheers!
